Ben’s Biography

Ben Schonhorn is a New York based woodwind doubler. As a freelance musician, Ben has performed in a wide variety of musical theatre and orchestral settings across the East Coast. Some of his credits include Kimberly Akimbo First National Tour, Some Like it Hot National Tour, Soundcake: Aural Confections by Sapphira Cristál & Monét X Change at Lincoln Center, the Engeman Theater (Northport, NY), Northern Stage (White River Junction, VT), Crystal Cimaglia Sings Celine Dion at 54 Below, An Evening of Chamber Music at Weill Recital Hall presented by New York Youth Symphony, Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, and College Light Opera Company (Falmouth, MA), among others.

A graduate from NYU Steinhardt, Ben was seen as a leader both within and outside of the NYU Music & Performing Arts Professions department. Ben held multiple principal positions on both clarinet and oboe across the ensembles that he performed with at NYU. In addition to his performance responsibilities at NYU, Ben was the lead student worker for the NYU Orchestras, a 2021 Steinhardt Summer Orientation Assistant, Peer Mentor for NYU Steinhardt for three years, and the co-founder of the “West 4th Collective,” a digital orchestra dedicated to producing virtual performances when venues shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ben was named a University Honors Scholar and was a recipient of the Ida Bodman Service Award at the time of his graduation in 2023. During his time at NYU, Ben studied with Dr. Christopher Bush, Toyin Spellman-Diaz, and Suzanne Gilchrest.

Shortly after graduation, Ben started working at Chamber Music America where he was initially hired as their Social Media Assistant, but later promoted in 2024 to Social Media & Digital Content Coordinator. In addition to creating content for their various social media platforms, Ben was aiding on the editing of video content, creating assets for weekly emails, writing blogs, updating and maintaining the website, tracking social media growth across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and updating brand guidelines.

Currently, Ben is freelance content creating for multiple chamber ensembles and is the Reed 1 Chair on the First National Kimberly Akimbo National Tour.
